Chili Fritters (spicy Mirchi Bajji)
Chili Fritters, also known as Spicy Mirchi Bajji, are a popular snack from the Uttara Karnataka Cuisine. These fritters are made by stuffing large green chilies with a spicy and tangy filling, dipping them in a gram flour batter, and deep-frying until crispy. They are perfect for a rainy day or as an appetizer for a gathering.
Ingredients
- 6 large green chilies
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Make a lengthwise slit in each green chili and remove the seeds.
- In a bowl, mix gram flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, baking soda, and salt. Add water gradually to make a smooth batter.
- Stuff the green chilies with the prepared filling.
- Heat oil in a deep pan. Dip each stuffed chili in the batter and carefully place it in the hot oil.
- Fry the chili fritters until they turn golden and crispy. Remove and drain excess oil on a paper towel.
- Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
