Chornomorski Varenyky, also known as Cossack Blueberry Pierogi, is a traditional dish from Cossack cuisine. These delicious dumplings are filled with sweet blueberries and are perfect for a dessert or a sweet snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups blueberries
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the blueberries, sugar, and cinnamon.
- In another bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add water and mix until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
- Place a spoonful of the blueberry mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal.
- Boil the pierogi in a pot of water for 5-7 minutes, until they float to the surface.
- Serve the Chornomorski Varenyky hot, optionally with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
