Chotlho Chomp
Chotlho Chomp is a traditional Botswana dish that is bursting with flavors and spices. This hearty stew is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 kg beef, cubed
- 2 onions, chopped
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until the onions are translucent.
- Add the beef cubes to the pot and brown on all sides.
- Stir in the ground coriander, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 2 minutes to toast the spices.
- Add the diced tomatoes, beef broth, and water to the pot. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, or until the beef is tender.
- Serve the Chotlho Chomp hot, accompanied by steamed rice or traditional Botswana bread.
