Chwee Kueh Carnival
Chwee Kueh is a popular breakfast dish in Singapore, consisting of steamed rice cakes topped with savory preserved radish. In this recipe, we will create a Chwee Kueh Carnival by adding a variety of toppings to the traditional dish, making it a fun and flavorful treat for any time of the day.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup preserved radish (Chai poh)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped spring onions
- 1/4 cup fried shallots
- Chili sauce, to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the rice flour, water, and salt to make the Chwee Kueh batter.
- Pour the batter into small greased bowls and steam for 15 minutes until set.
- While the rice cakes are steaming, heat the vegetable oil in a pan and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
- Add the preserved radish, soy sauce, and sugar to the pan, and stir-fry for 5 minutes.
- Remove the steamed rice cakes from the bowls and top with the preserved radish mixture, chopped spring onions, fried shallots, and chili sauce.
