Citrusy Rice Pilaf With Meat (shatkora Biryani)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 lb meat (chicken, lamb, or beef), cut into pieces
  • 1 shatkora fruit, sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons biryani masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Wash the basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Add the meat pieces to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, biryani masala, turmeric, and red chili powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the plain yogurt and shatkora slices to the pot. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  6. Layer the soaked rice over the meat and shatkora mixture. Pour the water over the rice.
  7. Cover the pot and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice and meat are fully cooked.
  8. Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
