Kepiting Rica-rica is a traditional spicy seafood stew from Manado cuisine, known for its rich flavors and aromatic spices. This dish is a perfect combination of fresh seafood, creamy coconut milk, and the fragrant aroma of lemongrass.

Coconut Milk and Lemongrass Seafood Stew (Kepiting Rica-rica)

Ingredients

  • 500g crab, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 400ml coconut milk
  • 4-5 kaffir lime leaves
  • 3 lemongrass stalks, bruised
  • 5 shallots, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 red chilies, sliced
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Sauté the shallots, garlic, and chilies until fragrant.
  2. Add the crab pieces and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the coconut milk and add the lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and tomato. Stir well.
  4. Dilute the tamarind paste in a little water and add it to the pot. Season with sugar and salt.
  5. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the crab is cooked and the flavors have melded together.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice.
