Ingredients

  • 1 head of cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of chili powder
  • 1 cup of vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, and chili powder.
  2. Dredge the cauliflower florets in the flour mixture until well coated.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Working in batches, fry the cauliflower until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, tomato paste, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Pour the sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
  7. Add the fried cauliflower to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
