Slider Bala-Bala Konk, also known as Conch Fritter Sliders, are a popular dish in Turks and Caicos Cuisine. These delicious sliders are made with crispy conch fritters sandwiched between soft slider buns, creating a perfect combination of textures and flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 lb conch, finely chopped
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 scotch bonnet pepper, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Oil for frying
- 8 slider buns
- Lettuce and tomato for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the chopped conch, flour, cornmeal, onion, bell pepper, garlic, and scotch bonnet pepper.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, salt, and black pepper.
- Pour the wet mixture into the conch mixture and stir until well combined.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Scoop spoonfuls of the conch mixture and carefully drop them into the hot oil.
- Fry the conch fritters until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Assemble the sliders by placing a conch fritter on each bun, garnish with lettuce and tomato, and serve hot.
