Construction Gingerbread
Construction gingerbread is a fun and creative way to enjoy the holiday season. This recipe allows you to build your own gingerbread house and decorate it to your heart's content!
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until creamy. Add the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 2 equal parts, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use gingerbread house templates to cut out the pieces for the house.
- Place the cut-out pieces on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until firm.
- Let the pieces cool completely before assembling the gingerbread house.
