Corn Chicha (chicha De Maíz)
Corn Chicha, also known as Chicha de Maíz, is a traditional Venezuelan beverage made from fermented corn. It's a refreshing and slightly tangy drink that is perfect for hot days or as a unique addition to any gathering.
Ingredients
- 6 ears of fresh corn, husks and silks removed
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Water
Instructions
- Grate the corn kernels off the cobs into a large bowl.
- Place the grated corn in a large pot and add enough water to cover it.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible.
- Return the liquid to the pot and add the sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
- Bring the mixture back to a simmer and cook for an additional 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.
- Transfer the chicha to a large pitcher and refrigerate until chilled.
- Serve the corn chicha over ice and enjoy!
