Cottage Cheese Butter Masala (creamy Paneer Butter Masala)
Cottage Cheese Butter Masala, also known as Creamy Paneer Butter Masala, is a popular dish in Malaysian Indian cuisine. It is a rich and creamy curry made with cottage cheese and a flavorful buttery tomato-based gravy.
Ingredients
- 200g cottage cheese (paneer), cubed
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan and sauté the cottage cheese cubes until lightly golden. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the remaining butter and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Pour in the tomato puree, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook the masala until the oil separates from the sides.
- Stir in the heavy cream and add the sautéed cottage cheese cubes. Simmer for a few minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
