Cottage Cheese Curry (chhena Gaja Jhola)

Ingredients

  • 500g cottage cheese, cut into cubes
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
  3. Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Whisk the yogurt and add it to the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously.
  5. Add the cottage cheese cubes and garam masala. Mix gently and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or Indian bread.
