Cottage Cheese Curry (chhena Gaja Jhola)
Cottage Cheese Curry, also known as Chhena Gaja Jhola, is a traditional dish from Oriya Cuisine that is rich in flavor and texture. This creamy and aromatic curry is a perfect blend of cottage cheese and spices, making it a delightful addition to any meal.
Ingredients
- 500g cottage cheese, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Whisk the yogurt and add it to the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously.
- Add the cottage cheese cubes and garam masala. Mix gently and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or Indian bread.
