Cottage Cheese Curry (chhena Jhola)
Cottage Cheese Curry, also known as Chhena Jhola, is a traditional dish from Oriya Cuisine that is rich in flavor and easy to prepare. This creamy and aromatic curry is made with fresh cottage cheese and a blend of spices, making it a perfect comfort food for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 250g cottage cheese (paneer), cubed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Whisk the yogurt and add it to the pan. Stir continuously to avoid curdling.
- Add the cubed cottage cheese and garam masala. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the curry thickens.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
