Cottage Cheese Curry (chhena Jhola)

Ingredients

  • 250g cottage cheese (paneer), cubed
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
  3. Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Whisk the yogurt and add it to the pan. Stir continuously to avoid curdling.
  5. Add the cubed cottage cheese and garam masala. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the curry thickens.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
