Cottage Cheese Curry (chhena Poda Jhola)
Cottage Cheese Curry, also known as Chhena Poda Jhola, is a traditional Oriya dish that combines the richness of cottage cheese with a flavorful curry sauce. This dish is a popular choice for special occasions and gatherings, and it's sure to impress your guests with its unique taste.
Ingredients
- 500g cottage cheese (chhena)
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Crumble the cottage cheese and add it to the pan. Stir gently to coat the cottage cheese with the masala.
- Pour in 2 cups of water and bring the curry to a gentle boil. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the curry thickens.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
