Cottage Cheese Curry (chhena Poda Jhola)

Ingredients

  • 500g cottage cheese (chhena)
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
  3. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Crumble the cottage cheese and add it to the pan. Stir gently to coat the cottage cheese with the masala.
  5. Pour in 2 cups of water and bring the curry to a gentle boil. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the curry thickens.
  6. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
