Crab Xec Xec (goan Crab Masala)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh crab, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped

  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp tamarind paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions, garlic, and ginger until golden brown.
  2. Add the green chilies, grated coconut, and all the spice powders. Cook for a few minutes.
  3. Add the tamarind paste and water, and bring it to a boil.
  4. Add the crab pieces, season with salt, and cook until the crab is done.
  5. Serve hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
