Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring water, butter, and salt to a boil. Add flour all at once and stir until a smooth ball forms. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  2. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until smooth. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart onto greased baking sheets.
  3. Bake at 400°F for 30-35 minutes or until puffed and golden. Remove to wire racks. Immediately split puffs open; remove and discard soft dough from inside. Cool puffs.
  4. In a small saucepan, bring cream to a boil. Remove from the heat; stir in chocolate and vanilla until smooth. Cool to room temperature, stirring occasionally. Beat in sugar until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fill cream puffs with whipped cream. Drizzle with chocolate sauce. Serve immediately.
