Creamy Palak Paneer
Creamy Palak Paneer is a popular Tamil cuisine dish made with spinach and Indian cottage cheese. This rich and flavorful dish is a perfect combination of creamy spinach and soft paneer, making it a favorite among vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.
Ingredients
- 500g fresh spinach, washed and chopped
- 200g paneer, cubed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or oil
Instructions
- Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add grated ginger, minced garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a minute.
- Now, add the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chopped spinach and cook until it wilts down.
- Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down. Then, blend it into a smooth puree.
- Transfer the pureed spinach back to the pan and add the cubed paneer. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and let it simmer for a few minutes until the desired consistency is reached.
- Season with salt and serve hot with naan or rice.
