Creamy Paneer Butter Masala is a popular North Indian dish that has found its way into Udupi cuisine. This rich and flavorful dish is made with soft paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cooked in a creamy and buttery tomato-based gravy.
Ingredients
- 250g paneer, cubed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup cashew nuts, soaked
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup cream
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
- Add the tomato puree, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
- In a blender, grind the soaked cashew nuts with a little water to form a smooth paste.
- Add the cashew paste to the tomato-onion mixture and cook for a few minutes.
- Add butter, sugar, and cream. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the paneer cubes and kasuri methi. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
