Creamy Rice Pudding (Sütlaç)
Sütlaç, also known as creamy rice pudding, is a traditional dessert in Gagauz cuisine. This sweet and creamy dessert is made with simple ingredients and is a favorite for special occasions and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup short-grain rice
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Ground cinnamon, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine the rice and milk. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, until the rice is tender and the mixture has thickened, about 30-35 minutes.
- Stir in the sugar, salt, and vanilla extract. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and let the sütlaç cool for a few minutes.
- Divide the sütlaç into serving bowls and sprinkle with ground cinnamon.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
