Creamy Rice Pudding with Rosewater (Güllaç)
Güllaç is a traditional Gagauz dessert made with creamy rice pudding and flavored with rosewater. This delicate and fragrant dessert is often enjoyed during special occasions and holidays.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice
- 4 cups milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup crushed walnuts
- 1 tablespoon rosewater
- 6 güllaç sheets (thin pastry sheets)
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Wash the rice and cook it in milk until soft.
- Add sugar and crushed walnuts to the rice pudding and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Stir in the rosewater and let the pudding cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, soak the güllaç sheets in water for a few minutes until soft.
- Layer the güllaç sheets in a serving dish, alternating with the rice pudding mixture.
- Refrigerate the güllaç for at least 2 hours before serving.
