Creole Style Beef Empanadas
These Creole Style Beef Empanadas are a delicious Martinican dish that combines savory beef filling with a flaky pastry crust. They are perfect for a snack or as part of a larger meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 sheets of store-bought pie crust
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper, and cook until the vegetables are soft.
- Stir in the paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, and tomato sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the pie crust and cut out circles using a round cutter or a small plate as a guide.
- Place a spoonful of the beef filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape, then crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush the empanadas with the beaten egg to create a golden crust. Place them on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Let the empanadas cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
