Ingredients

  • 1 whole duck, about 5 pounds
  • 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 4 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 4 slices fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Rinse the duck and pat dry. Trim off any excess fat.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the five-spice powder, salt, and white pepper. Rub the mixture all over the duck, inside and out.
  4. Stuff the cavity of the duck with green onions and ginger.
  5. Place the duck on a rack in a roasting pan and roast for 1 hour.
  6. In a small saucepan, heat the honey, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and rice vinegar until combined.
  7. After the duck has roasted for 1 hour, brush the honey glaze all over the duck.
  8. Return the duck to the oven and roast for another 1 hour, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
  9. Let the duck rest for 10 minutes before carving and serving.
