Suānbǐng, also known as Crispy Fried Stuffed Buns, is a popular street food in Tianjin, China. These buns are crispy on the outside and filled with savory meat and vegetable fillings, making them a delicious and satisfying snack or meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add the warm water while stirring to form a dough. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, mix the ground pork, shredded cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and ground white pepper until well combined.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten into a small circle. Place a spoonful of the pork filling in the center of each circle. Pinch the edges together to seal and form a bun.
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Place the stuffed buns in the pan and fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the crispy fried stuffed buns from the pan and drain on paper towels. Serve hot and enjoy!
