Crispy Fried Stuffed Buns (Suānbǐng)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add the warm water while stirring to form a dough. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, mix the ground pork, shredded cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and ground white pepper until well combined.
  3. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten into a small circle. Place a spoonful of the pork filling in the center of each circle. Pinch the edges together to seal and form a bun.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Place the stuffed buns in the pan and fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Remove the crispy fried stuffed buns from the pan and drain on paper towels. Serve hot and enjoy!
