Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese black vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Sichuan peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu cubes between paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the tofu cubes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. In a separate pan, heat a little oil and sauté the green onions and garlic until fragrant.
  5. Add the soy sauce, Chinese black vinegar, sugar, Sichuan peppercorns, and chili flakes to the pan. Stir in the water and simmer for a few minutes.
  6. Pour the spicy sauce over the crispy fried tofu and serve hot.
