Crispy Masala Vadai
Crispy Masala Vadai is a popular South Indian snack made with chana dal, spices, and herbs. It is a delicious and crunchy treat that is perfect for serving with tea or as an appetizer.
Ingredients
- 2 cups chana dal (split chickpeas)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Soak the chana dal in water for 2-3 hours, then drain well.
- In a food processor, coarsely grind the chana dal without adding any water.
- Transfer the ground dal to a mixing bowl and add the chopped onion, green chilies, ginger, coriander leaves, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a flat round vadai. Carefully slide it into the hot oil.
- Fry the vadai in batches until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
