Crispy Onion Bhajis
Crispy Onion Bhajis are a popular Anglo-Indian snack that are deliciously crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are made with sliced onions mixed in a spiced chickpea flour batter and then deep-fried until golden brown.
Ingredients
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup chickpea flour
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander
- Water, as needed
- Oil, for deep-frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced onions, chickpea flour, cumin seeds, chili powder, turmeric, garam masala, salt, and fresh coriander.
- Add water gradually and mix until the onions are well coated and the mixture holds together when pressed.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- Drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the hot oil and fry until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- Remove the bhajis with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve the crispy onion bhajis hot with chutney or yogurt raita.
