Ingredients

  • 1 whole duck, about 4 lbs
  • 2 tablespoons Wattleseed
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 piece ginger, about 2 inches, grated
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the Wattleseed, Chinese five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Rub the duck inside and out with the spice mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and green onions.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Sear the duck on all sides until browned, about 5 minutes per side.
  7. Transfer the duck to a roasting pan and brush with the soy sauce mixture.
  8. Roast in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the duck is crispy and cooked through.
  9. Let the duck rest for 10 minutes before carving.
  10. Serve the crispy Wattleseed duck with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables.
