Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 cups fresh cherries, pitted
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into the batter alternately with the milk. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Arrange the pitted cherries on top of the batter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar before serving.
