Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 cups fresh cherries, pitted
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into the batter alternately with the milk. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  4. Arrange the pitted cherries on top of the batter.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
