Croatian Plum Dumplings (Hrvatske knedle s šljivama)
Hrvatske knedle s šljivama, or Croatian Plum Dumplings, are a traditional Croatian dessert made with sweet plums wrapped in a potato dough and then boiled. These delicious dumplings are often served as a dessert or a sweet snack.
Ingredients
- 6 large potatoes, peeled and diced
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 12 small plums, pitted
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup sugar
Instructions
- In a large pot, boil the potatoes until tender. Drain and mash the potatoes in a large bowl.
- Add the flour and salt to the mashed potatoes, and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and flatten each piece into a small round disc.
- Place a plum in the center of each disc, then fold the dough around the plum, sealing it completely.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water and cook for about 10 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the breadcrumbs. Cook until the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
- Remove the dumplings from the water and roll them in the breadcrumb mixture to coat.
- Sprinkle the dumplings with sugar and serve warm.
