Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 8 slices of Gruyère cheese
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Make the béchamel sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan, then whisking in the flour and cooking for 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Assemble the sandwiches by placing a slice of ham and a slice of cheese between two slices of bread.
  4. Spread a generous amount of béchamel sauce on top of each sandwich.
  5. Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.
