Croquetas Catalanas (catalan Croquettes)
Croquetas Catalanas, or Catalan Croquettes, are a popular tapas dish in Southern European cuisine. These creamy and crispy croquettes are filled with a delicious mixture of flavors and are perfect for sharing with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/4 cup of butter
- 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of finely chopped cooked ham
- 1/2 cup of grated Manchego cheese
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup of breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the milk until it's warm but not boiling.
- In another saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
- Gradually add the warm milk to the roux, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
- Stir in the chopped ham and grated Manchego cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Transfer the mixture to a shallow dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until firm.
- Shape the chilled mixture into small croquettes, dip them in beaten eggs, and coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the croquettes until golden brown on all sides.
- Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels before serving.
