ಎಲೆಕೋಸು ಪಲ್ಯ (Crunchy Cabbage Palya) is a traditional Udupi dish that is quick and easy to make. It is a delicious side dish that pairs well with rice or roti.

Crunchy Cabbage Palya (ಎಲೆಕೋಸು ಪಲ್ಯ)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups finely chopped cabbage
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds.
  2. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  3. Add the finely chopped cabbage, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Cover and cook on medium heat for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is cooked but still crunchy.
  5. Add grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and serve hot with rice or roti.
