ಮಸಾಲ ಪೂರಿ (Crunchy Masala Puri) is a delicious and crispy deep-fried bread from Udupi Cuisine that is flavored with a blend of aromatic spices. It makes for a perfect snack or accompaniment to a meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup semolina
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Water for kneading
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, semolina, chopped onions, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt.
- Add water gradually and knead the mixture into a firm dough.
- Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls and roll them out into small puris using a rolling pin.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- Gently slide the rolled puris into the hot oil and fry until they puff up and turn golden brown on both sides.
- Remove the puris from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.
- Serve the crunchy masala puris hot with chutney or pickle.
