Crustacean Croquettes
Crustacean Croquettes are a delicious Devonian dish made with fresh seafood and a blend of savory spices. These crispy, golden-brown croquettes are perfect for a special dinner or as an appetizer for a gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 pound cooked crab meat
- 1/2 pound cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the crab meat, shrimp, onion, celery, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into small patties or balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each croquette in the flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the croquettes in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Transfer the cooked croquettes to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve the crustacean croquettes hot with your favorite dipping sauce or a squeeze of lemon.
