Daal Gosht (lamb And Lentil Stew)
Daal Gosht is a traditional Pashtun dish that combines tender lamb with hearty lentils in a rich and flavorful stew. This comforting and nutritious meal is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb, cut into cubes
- 1 cup lentils, rinsed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 3 cups water
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Add the lamb cubes and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 45 minutes or until the lamb and lentils are tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
