Daal Gosht (lamb And Lentil Stew)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lamb, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup lentils, rinsed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  2. Add chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
  3. Add the lamb cubes and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 45 minutes or until the lamb and lentils are tender.
  6. Sprinkle garam masala and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
