Dajaj Qeema (iraqi Style Chicken Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions until golden brown.
  2. Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  4. Stir in the cumin, coriander, turmeric, and red chili powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
  6. Add garam masala, salt, and chopped cilantro. Mix well.
  7. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
  8. Serve hot with rice or bread.
