Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pita bread rounds
  • Sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions for serving
  • Tahini sauce or garlic sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the yogurt, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced chicken thighs and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes, or until fully cooked and slightly charred.
  3. Warm the pita bread rounds in the skillet for a few seconds on each side.
  4. Assemble the shawarma by placing the cooked chicken on the warm pita bread, and topping with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and a drizzle of tahini or garlic sauce.
  5. Roll up the pita bread and serve the Dajaj Shawarma immediately.
