Dajaj Shawarma (iraqi Chicken Shawarma)
Dajaj Shawarma, also known as Iraqi Chicken Shawarma, is a popular Middle Eastern street food. This flavorful dish is made with marinated chicken, wrapped in pita bread, and served with a variety of toppings and sauces.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita bread rounds
- Sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions for serving
- Tahini sauce or garlic sauce for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the yogurt, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced chicken thighs and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes, or until fully cooked and slightly charred.
- Warm the pita bread rounds in the skillet for a few seconds on each side.
- Assemble the shawarma by placing the cooked chicken on the warm pita bread, and topping with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and a drizzle of tahini or garlic sauce.
- Roll up the pita bread and serve the Dajaj Shawarma immediately.
