Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 large onion, sliced

  • 3-4 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2-3 hot peppers, sliced (optional for extra spiciness)
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the chicken, onion, garlic, ginger, green onions, and hot peppers.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, gochugaru, gochujang, sugar, and sesame oil. Pour this sauce over the chicken and vegetables in the pot.
  3. Add water to the pot and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 30-40 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  5. Serve the spicy braised chicken hot with steamed rice.
