Dakdoritang Spicy Chicken Stew (닭도리탕)
닭도리탕 (Dakdoritang) is a popular spicy chicken stew in Korean cuisine, known for its rich and flavorful broth. This dish is perfect for warming up on a cold day and is often enjoyed with a bowl of steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 4 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 green onions, chopped
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
- 3 tbsp gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 6 cups water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the chicken, potatoes, carrots, onion, green onions, and garlic.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the gochugaru, gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil. Pour this mixture over the chicken and vegetables in the pot.
- Add water to the pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1 hour, or until the chicken is fully cooked and the vegetables are tender.
- Season with salt to taste and serve hot with steamed rice.
