Dakjjim (닭찜)
Dakjjim is a traditional Korean braised chicken dish that is packed with flavor and perfect for a comforting meal. The chicken is slowly cooked in a savory and slightly sweet sauce, resulting in tender and juicy meat that is sure to satisfy your taste buds.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3-4 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 4 carrots, sliced
- 5-6 shiitake mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup soy sauce
- ½ cup sugar
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 2 cups water
- Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Place the chicken pieces in a large pot.
- Add the onion, potatoes, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms to the pot.
- In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and ginger. Pour the mixture over the chicken and vegetables.
- Add water to the pot, making sure the chicken and vegetables are submerged.
- Cover the pot and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Then, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1 hour, or until the chicken is tender.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
