Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole black lentils
  • 1/4 cup red kidney beans
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash the black lentils and kidney beans, then soak them in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Pressure cook the soaked lentils and beans with salt and enough water until they are soft and well-cooked.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes, then add the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil separates.
  5. Add the cooked lentils and beans to the tomato mixture, along with red chili powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala. Mix well and simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream and cook for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
