Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons caraway seeds

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Stir in the sugar, salt, and caraway seeds.
  3. Gradually add the flour, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch the dough down, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake the bread for 40-45 minutes or until it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
