Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 3-4 tablespoons cold water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a food processor, pulse the flour, salt, and cayenne pepper until combined.
- Add the cold butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the grated cheddar cheese and pulse until the dough starts to come together.
- Gradually add the cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and pulse until the dough forms a ball.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into strips about 1/2 inch wide and 4 inches long.
- Place the strips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese straws are golden and crispy.
- Let the cheese straws cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
