Danish Onion Tart (Løgtærte)
Løgtærte, also known as Danish Onion Tart, is a traditional savory dish from Danish cuisine. This delicious tart features a buttery crust filled with a savory mixture of caramelized onions, eggs, and cream. It's perfect for brunch, lunch, or a light dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press the dough into a 9-inch tart pan. Chill in the refrigerator while preparing the filling.
- In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spoon the caramelized onions into the prepared tart crust. Pour the egg and cream mixture over the onions.
- Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the tart to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
