Danish Spiced Wine (Gløgg)
Gløgg is a traditional Danish spiced wine that is perfect for warming up during the cold winter months. This flavorful beverage is a popular choice for holiday gatherings and cozy evenings by the fire.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle of red wine
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 orange, sliced
- 10 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon of cardamom seeds
- 1/2 cup of raisins
- 1/2 cup of blanched almonds
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and cardamom seeds to the saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Pour in the red wine and heat until steaming, but not boiling.
- Remove from heat and let the gløgg sit for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
- Before serving, strain the gløgg to remove the spices. Stir in the raisins and almonds.
