Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper, and salt. Shape the mixture into meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, tomato paste, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Serve the meatballs with the sauce, accompanied by rice or bread.
