Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, onion, garlic, parsley, breadcrumbs, egg, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into meatballs.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, tomato paste, and sugar. Stir to combine.
  4. Return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning the tomato sauce over them. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Serve the meatballs and sauce hot, with rice or pita bread on the side.
