Dawood Basha is a traditional Qatari dish featuring spiced lamb meatballs cooked in a rich tomato sauce. This flavorful and aromatic dish is perfect for a hearty meal with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 500g ground lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup beef or lamb broth
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the ground lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, cinnamon, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the crushed tomatoes, beef or lamb broth, and tomato paste. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
- Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
