Ingredients

  • 500g ground lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup beef or lamb broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon pomegranate molasses (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Shape the mixture into meatballs.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the crushed tomatoes, beef or lamb broth, tomato paste, and pomegranate molasses. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  4. Return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning the tomato sauce over them. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Once cooked, garnish with fresh parsley and serve the Dawood Basha hot with rice or bread.
