Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the water, vegetable oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
